Excited for the Homecoming Game?
Everyone’s heard about the game but what people don’t know about is the events before and during the halftime show. Well here’s everything you need to know.
Before the Game make sure to show up early to check out the homecoming block party from 4:30 – 6:30. It features food trucks from UnBakeable, Eggroll Queen, Floyd’s Mini Donuts, Rock Elm, and Coffee on Wheels. As well as booths for DECA, Volunteer Club, and more. Another plus of showing up before kickoff at 7:00 is catching the Marching Band entering the stadium and their pre-game drill. Along with of course securing a good spot. During the game watch out for Troy the Trojan and be prepared to be covered in powder after Sweet Caroline.
You can also catch the Marching Band during the halftime show. This year they will be playing a mash-up of pop songs including Bang Bang by Jessie J and Bad Romance by Lady Gaga along with an original percussion feature. The Band has been preparing this piece since early August and daily during class to perfect this intricate drill. The Showstoppers will be joining them to perform a kick routine to Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. Expect precision and some seriously impressive kicks.
The Cheer Team will be performing a fast-moving and attention-grabbing routine to a mash up of pop songs. The routine is packed with stunning sequences, showing how skilled this team is. The team is thrilled to unveil their hard work. “I’m really excited for people to see our routine because our entire team has worked so hard for this, and we’ve made significant progress from our first practice,” shared Jocelyn Annett. For many, being part of the cheer team is more than just performing. It’s about the community and facing challenges together which is evident every time they take the field.
Special thanks to Owen Piatkowski, Brady Justenson, Carmella Mitchell, and Jocelyn Annett for providing the interviews and information in this article.
