Wayzata girls basketball is undoubtedly having an outstanding season. The girls team is not just good, but one of the best in the nation. With a ranking of 24th in the nation, 2nd in the state, and 3rd in their conference, Wayzata is dominating girls high school basketball.
On February 9th, Kate Amelotte recently scored a career high of 38 points, including a powerful 12 points in overtime. These points helped the team to a win against Maple Grove with the final score being 100-83 in overtime. This game marked the second time the Trojans have taken down the Crimson this year.
In other girls basketball news, as the regular season dies down, the “second season” begins. The team is currently preparing for the state tournament to start in less than a month with the quarterfinals beginning on Wednesday, March 12.
With state just around the corner, the team needs all the support they can get, and they have it. This team has four team managers that have been with the team through every win and every loss. Nora Eddleman, Ally Dwyer, Hannah Brenkie, and Millie Marlin are the four senior managers. This group of young women all have supported this team through the highs and lows of their season.
Nora Eddleman shared how much she loves being manager by expressing her care for the team. “I love these girls and this team so much, I love being a team manager.” The pride that she has for the Trojans continues to increase.
In terms of future games and scheduling, the girls have their section’s games on February 28th at 12pm and March 5th at 7pm. The first being a home game at WHS against Edina and the second being at Hopkins High School against the winner of the Hopkins versus St. Louis Park game.
For the state tournament, games will be held at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota’s campus. The team needs all the support they can get from their fans and student section in order to bring home the state title, which would be the first in Wayzata girls basketball history.
