Wayzata High School’s soccer program is once again making waves as both the girls’ and boys’ teams showcase their talent at the state level. As the teams get ready for the state championship, they’re taking with them the hopes of their school and town.
Known for their competitive spirit and skilled players, Wayzata’s soccer teams undoubtedly have a history of success, and this year is no different. Both teams, with rosters full of talented and promising playmakers, have been putting on a show recently as they head to the state semifinals at U.S bank stadium next week.
Their journey to the state tournament was marked by an impressive victory against Rogers for the girls team along with a victory against Armstrong for the boys team. In the two state quarterfinal games recently, the girls team had a close game against STMA eventually ending the game in overtime with a 1-0 win. The boys on the other hand, recently had a strong win against Blaine with a final score of 3-1.
With both teams focused on both offensive and defensive strength, they’ve consistently outperformed their opponents, making them strong contenders for the state championship title.
The Wayzata girls soccer team is making a spirited return to the state tournament, fueled by ambition to secure back-to-back championships. Previously, they brought home the championship win against Edina after a hard fought game with a final score of 3-1.
With a senior-heavy boys team roster this year, stakes are high as they were unable to come out with the championship win last year.
Although the girls team does not have as many seniors, stakes are just as high as the girls are hungry for the back to back title. Whether they emerge as state champions or not, their participation in the state tournament in itself is a celebration of achievements.
