With the Fall postseason gearing up, Wayzata athletics are on the rise! The fall season runs from August through November and kicks off the 2025-26 sports year. Athletes from five varsity sports have poured themselves into this season, had groundbreaking plays and made this one for the books. Wayzata creates an electric atmosphere for spectators of any and all sports we have to offer which makes the viewing experience so special. That’s why for example, the Wayzata football games attract over 1,000 people that come to cheer on our team.

Football
Our football team ended the regular season with a record of 1-7. Although it may not be the season we dreamed it would be, we still showed up with pride and energy to cheer on our team. In the first round of the AAAAAA Section Tournament, Wayzata is going up against Lakeville South on October 24th to advance to the second round. Senior at Wayzata, Riley Rotkiewicz is an outside linebacker on the varsity football team. He said that this season was, “Definitely not what we wanted; but I believe in the team and believe we will do good in the playoffs.”
Since the writing of this article, the football team’s season ended with a 35-12 loss to Lakeville South.
Girls Soccer

The eight-time state champion girls soccer team ended this season with an outstanding 14-0-2 record. Last year they won the state title after an exciting 3-1 win over Edina and returned this year to the state tournament at the #1 seed. The team moved on to the second round after a 1-0 win against STMA in overtime on Tuesday. The game was very close, tied at 0-0 until the first overtime of the postseason. Junior at Wayzata, Lauren Craig, earned MVP this season with 18 goals and 19 assists. Jadyn Zouber is a senior on the team and said, “My biggest hope for the postseason is to win the state championship. I wanted to at least make it to US Bank Stadium, which we achieved! I’m extremely excited to play at US Bank Stadium because it’s so cool to play in and it’s an amazing accomplishment.”
Boys Soccer

The Wayzata Boys Soccer team is entering postseason as the #4 seed. They faced Blaine in the first round of the state tournament on October 22nd and ended with a 3-1 victory! George Soeffker is a junior at Wayzata and secured the MVP title this season with 7 goals and 3 assists.The team had many returning seniors and several underclassmen who were all very close and enjoyed watching each other’s game grow. Senior Jacob Salisbury says his favorite moments were their Friday practices when they did fun drills and got to play with the coaches dog. Their biggest hope for the rest of the season is to “win state!”
Since the writing of this article, the boys soccer team lost to Edina 3-0. They play for 3rd place on October 29 at 9am.
Girls Tennis
The Wayzata girls tennis team ended the season with an amazing 15-2 record and a doubles team qualifying for state. Joy Zhou and Nikole Nazarevych played Minnetonka in the first round of the state tournament on October 23rd where they lost their first match but proceeded to win their first match of consolations. Some highlights of the season include beating Minnetonka 4-3 on senior night and cheering each other on through the matches. Although they didn’t meet their goal of making it to state as a team, they are proud of how they played and beat all the great teams this season. Varsity tennis player, Abby Graber, says the team has grown so much closer this season through bonding events like team dinners and board nights. And “We’ve become like a family,” she said.
Girls Volleyball
The girls volleyball team went up against Hopkins in the section 5AAAA quarterfinals on October 23rd and won in straight sets. They ended the 2025 season with a record of 16-12 and entered sections as the #3 seed. Senior Eva Swenson said that everyone’s very proud of how they have played this season and the team is very close and they all work hard for one another. Eva is planning on graduating early and going to play division 1 volleyball at UW- Green Bay! The team won some tough battles and lost others, but they’ve worked hard and had high spirits throughout it all.
Cross Country

Wayzata’s girls and boys cross country teams both won the 2025 sections and are en route to state! The team’s top five runners finished in the top 6 which shows how strong they have become as individuals and a team. Ali Ledman is a freshman on the varsity XC team and shared that her favorite team moment was their time at Baker. Baker is a camp that they would go to for a couple days where they had no phones and spent time getting in good practice and bonding with the team with no distractions. The team has overcome many challenges this season including injuries, tough workouts, and hard races through their strong sense of teamwork.
Yet again Wayzata has had a great season and we can’t wait to see what the postseason has in store for us! If you have the chance make sure to go cheer on our teams and show your school spirit! Overall, this season is definitely one that will be remembered – not just for the great wins, but for the incredible memories.
