Whether you’ve read the comics or watched the movies, Peanuts has had a lasting impact on America. To honor its legacy, bronze sculptures were installed in downtown Saint Paul—the hometown of its creator, Charles M. Schulz.
Located in Landmark Plaza and neighboring Rice Park, the Peanuts Gang Bronzes are a series of sculptures created after Schulz’s death. Installed in 2003, the five pieces feature nine characters from the Peanuts franchise. It was funded by the Peanuts on Parade initiative, which auctioned off fiberglass statues to raise money for the more permanent bronze statues.
When I visited the statues, it was a warm and sunny Saturday. A light breeze blew through the streets, and the rustling leaves provided a nice ambience. The surrounding greenery provided a nice contrast to the rest of downtown. As I walked around, I was really impressed by the amount of detail on the statues—each one told its own story. Sally had flowers to give to Linus, and Woodstock was reading over Marcy’s shoulder. I especially enjoyed finding where all of the statues were located!
While I would not recommend this as its own trip, it’s a great place to visit if you happen to be in Saint Paul. The park provides a refuge from the bustling city, so it’s a great place to relax and recharge. I especially recommend this for anyone who likes the Peanuts or enjoys parks.
In conclusion, the Peanuts Gang Bronzes are a great addition for a trip to Saint Paul. Whether it’s for a few minutes or an hour, I encourage you to find time during your trip to the city to see them. It’s a great way to honor the Peanuts and the man who created them!
