In two short weeks, the ball will be dropping in Time Square, and students will be watching fireworks with friends to celebrate the new year. 2025 has flown by, so here’s a quick recap of some of the major things that happened at Wayzata this year.
Tardy and Phone Policies
Students saw the introduction of the tardy kiosks to the hallways as well as phone pockets in classrooms. Both systems were implemented to streamline attendance and increase focus in classes, but the effect they had is debatable.

Salad Bar
In September, students walked into the cafeteria where the vending machines by A La Carte were replaced with plywood surrounding a renovation. Now, the new lunch line is built and set to open soon!
State Titles
The Wayzata Boys Nordic Ski, Boys Basketball, Boys Tennis, Girls Track and Field, and Girls Cross Country teams placed first in state championships.
New Staff
A total of 24 new teachers joined the WHS staff this year. Superintendent Dr. Chase Anderson’s retirement was also announced.
New Students
The class of 2029 entered the halls of Wayzata with a record class size of 1052 students. This put the total number of students to 4039, keeping WHS as the largest secondary school in Minnesota.

Building Proposal
A new addition to the high school (as well as a new gym for Sunset Hill Elementary, a new elementary school, and a new middle school) were proposed. The WHS proposed development includes a pool, and upgrades to the cafeteria, gyms, and kitchens.
New Classes
9 new classes were offered this fall, including Guitar, AI’s Impact on Sports and Business, and Native American Studies.
